Masterclasses and Workshops
In the three previous editions, free masterclasses—both in-person and virtual—have been offered in piano, strings, and woodwind instruments, led by members of the British jury. Renowned violinist Aisha Syed has also contributed with masterclass sessions. Over 150 musicians from Santo Domingo and Punta Cana have participated in these sessions. Additionally, winners and finalists of the award receive a personalized masterclass following the Grand Final – Award Ceremony.
In July 2023, the “BritchamDR Percussion and Brass Summer Workshops” were held—an intensive four-day workshop led by professors Dr. Dewi Ellis Jones and Gwyn Williams. Twenty-five intermediate and advanced young musicians from the Dominican Republic and Haiti took part.
These workshops were made possible thanks to the valuable support of educational institutions and foundations such as the National Conservatory of Music and the Eduardo Brito National Theater, which hosted the sessions, as well as other institutions like the Ministry of Culture, the General Directorate of Fine Arts, and the City Council of the National District, with the collaboration of The Doughty Family Foundation, the Dominican Embassy in the United Kingdom, the British Embassy in Santo Domingo, Fundación Sinfonía, and the Friends of the National Theater Foundation.
